Young People’s Project

Rollin’ Forever

The Rollin’ Forever magazine project was devised and ran by Plexus Media’s core team, in association with the Youth Inclusion Project in Radford and the Partnership Council charity based in Hyson Green. The project involved working with a group of young people ranging in age from 8-17 years; all of whom were considered to be at risk of social exclusion.

The result was a professionally printed magazine devised and produced by the young people themselves featuring their original artwork, photography, creative writing, thoughts and opinions. As well as introducing the young people to basic media skills, the project was about giving them a voice and a platform to discuss topics such as crime, school and music. The Rollin’ Forever project has been featured in the Government’s ‘YJ’ (Youth Justice) magazine and the professional publication Children & Young People Now.

Following the success of the Rollin’ Forever magazine project, Plexus Media’s core team were asked to run another two projects, with two different groups of young people at risk of social exclusion.

Mediabox, an organisation supporting young people’s involvement in media-related projects and resulted in two more magazines devised and produced entirely by the young people involved, funded the new project.

The project was independently evaluated too with the feedback providing a number of fascinating insights that will be used to evolve and refine any future youth projects we’re involved in.
